Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Find Certified PHEVs

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) combine two propulsion modes in one vehicle – an electric motor that is battery powered and can be plugged in and recharged and a gasoline engine that can be refueled with gasoline.  Different PHEVs will vary in how far they can travel on battery-power alone.

Two types of PHEVs are on the market, with both offering some all-electric range.  One type of PHEV operates only on battery power until the engine is needed to provide energy to the batteries. The other type operates on a mix of battery and engine power after the all-electric range has run down.
